Verhaeghe Echte Kriekenbier (Belgium: Sour Fruit Beer: 6.8 % ABV)

Visual: Clear dark black cherry red, initial large sherbety froth of a head subsides quickly leaving no trace.

Nose: Sharp, sour. Cherries and vinegar. Oak and hot apple pie. Yogurt

Body: Cherries, almost rum like qualities. Fizzy and fresh. Some raspberry. Sweet touches. The flavour hits in waves, ice cream toppings and bitter knots wash over you.

Finish: Sour, raspberry yogurt. Cream and twigs.

Conclusion: An interesting beer, in turns sweet and sour with several fruit notes in the blend.

A very good middle point for those who have started along the path of fruit beers and want something with a bit more punch that the overly sweet mainstream brews, but are not yet ready for the mouth puckering cantallions.

It also works well as a relaxing but not sickly sweet beer for those fans of sharp beers who want something a bit more easy going to relax with.

A well set middle ground fruit beer with a lot of life in it. Well placed to appeal to many people.
