Timmermans: Kriek Lambic (Belgium: Fruit Lambic: 4% ABV)

Visual: Clear dark black cherry and red mix with a purple red large bubbled head.

Nose: Lots of sweet blackcherry and yogurt, slight cheesecake and baileys. Raspberry touches.

Body: Sherbety, sweet and full of cherries and black cherries. Tingling feel from the just slightly acidic nature. Slightly syrupy.

Finish: Cheescake and blackcherry. Apple juice and lemon cream.

Conclusion: Timmermans seems to get a lot of grief these days. Admittedly this beer leans more towards the mainstream end of the market than say Cantillon, but that doesn’t make it a bad beer.

The slight acidic touches it brings at the back to offset the sweet fruity body bodes well, and the nose has a full fresh fruit and yogurt style.  Your not going to give it marks for taking risks, but it is far better than the over sweet syrupy beers I keep seeing it linked with.   Considering how comparatively easy it is to find, that fact that it does pretty good makes it a nice easy go to beer for the style.  Not a challenging beer but definitely doesn’t fall into the traps so many do
