Summer Wine Brewery: Treason Treacle Stout (England: Stout:4.8% ABV)

Visual: Black body, thick ice cream consistency head with a light beige look. The head remains a decent size through the examination.

Nose: Ash and campfire, squeezed orange juice and treacle. Cream.

Body: Real full on bonfire. Burnt caramelised brown sugar. Treacle. Thick cream and tobacco. Soaked oak and hops, sweet and harsh.

Finish: Caramel. Charcoal. Big amounts of tobacco and bitter. Campfire. Wet stones and bitter chocolate.

Conclusion: Full of fire and treacle, burning and roaring. Possibly just slightly too harsh, as there is little to subdue the charcoal and smoke. Feels in some ways like the odder Islay whiskies in its unusual and harsh tastes.

One that really makes you sit up and take notice, awakes your senses with its unsubtle assaults.

One for a rip roaring half, which will not give it time to wear out its welcome. But possibly too unsubtle for a full pint.
