Spirit Of Speyside 2009 whisky festival blended malt (Scottish Whisky: Speyside Blended Malt: 10 Year: 41.6% ABV)

33 Speyside malts blended 10 year

Visual: Light golden yellow

Viscosity: an unusual mix, a smattering of quick thin trails, but then the remained take a good while before descending thick and slow.

Nose: Initial salty character, harsh but enticing, digestives on the front, salted ready brek oats, the atmosphere of a bakery.

Body: Very week up front, too light by far. Opens up deliciously at the end with sweet shortbread and strawberries.

Finish: Salty, warming and enticing over the harshness, long biscuit

Conclusion: Trying for an impossible task of catching elements of all the Speyside malts within when Speyside itself is a microcosm of the whisky world. Whilst it does not succeed in this task it does create a nicely offset mix of salt and sweet, lacking only a peaty edge from the mix. A weak start to the flavour but a reasonable attempt.
