Moles Brewey: Elmo’s Fire (England: Golden Ale: 4.4% ABV)

Visual: Light bronzed amber with a thin white bubbled head.

Nose: Hops, milk, raspberry, sour grapes, ginger, chives and turmeric.

Body: Orange, planed wood and grapefruit. Toffee. Smooth vanilla. Slightly light at the back. Some hops, touch of spice at the end and a decent bitter touch.

Finish: Vanilla and caramel. Quite slick.

Conclusion: I am quite taken to this beer. It’s subtle enough to session, if that touch over in alcohol, and has definitely enough flavour to drink.

As pub pints go this is decent example – its not one you would take home to meet the family, but you’re fairly sure that’s not its intent. In other words, it’s not a beer you would take your time over to savour at a beer appreciation night. Instead this works as a party ale, or a session ale, or maybe just one over which to set the world to rights.

I’ll drink to that.
