Butcombe Bitter (England: Bitter: 4% ABV)

Visual: Bronzed red clear beer with an initially impressive head but quickly turns to a small slightly brown head spread irregularly over the pint.

Nose: Light hops and butter. Smooth and silky promising a nice easy drink.

Body: Bitter front, wood – oak and forests. Whole grain crackers. Slight sweetness.

Finish: Bitter hops, peanut butter and a touch of sugar.

Conclusion: A pretty standard bitter. Not exceptional, not bad. A nice bitter set of notes and a reasonable general drink for when you don’t want anything fancy. This one is doomed to be damned by faint praise.
