Aberlour 10 (Scottish Whisky: Speyside Single Malt: 10 Years: 40% ABV)

Visual: A lovely warm bronzed gold.

Viscosity: light streaks form intermittently.

Nose: Blackcurrant, mashed cherries, sour touches and ages oak.

Body: Very rich, butterscotch and shortbreads. Some raspberry. Added water makes some harsh wood elements more noticeable, but also adds vanilla and much more in the way of biscuit notes.

Finish: Spicy: More wood. Slight burnt harshness. Dry toast.

Conclusion: A stiff and well made drink with a great balance of flavours and a wonderful openness to discussion. A fine mainstream of any whisky cupboard.
