Update (6/24) Sul Ross State Annika Canaba Update (6/20) HSU Taylor Salone & St. Thomas Alyssa Ajlouny Update (6/19) CMS Jackie Jones Update (7/13) Concordia Kinsy Haschke

You may think I created this post only because I liked the picture and you wouldn’t be half-wrong. But, like the chicken and the egg, why did I look for the picture if I wasn’t going to post about the Super Seniors? Which came first?

My plan for this article is to update it periodically as coaches fess up (or players or parents) with who will be playing their Super Senior year. As a refresher, every student-athlete from the 2020-21 season gets a do-over regardless of whether they played or not. I have sprinkled some Super Seniors in other articles but this will be a one-stop-shop. The blurbs are from the team’s website, if they exist. Otherwise, I get to have fun with them (my apologies to Emily Ellis right from the start).

Cal Lutheran

  • Maci Haddad

All-America Third Team… Joined elite company and is just the fifth Regal to garner All-America status three times… All-West Region Team for third year in a row… First Team All-SCIAC… Played in 27 matches and 97 sets… Had 293 kills, averaging 3.02 kills per set… Recorded 646 attacks and a hitting percentage .365… Tallied 114 total blocks, with 1.18 per set, 16 solo and 98 assisted… Added 67 digs, 11 aces and 11 assists. (CLU Volleyball Website)

  • Julia Trento

Played in 27 matches and 92 sets… Had 233 digs, averaging 2.53 digs per set… Recorded 22 service aces and 17 assists… Added two kills. (CLU Volleyball Website)

Concordia

  • Kinsy Haschke

Transfer from Georgian Court University (DII) and Lamar (DI). Big time outside that will pair with Sarah Ghormley to form maybe one of the best duos in the ASC if not the region. (D3VbWest)

  • Alyssa Legette

Annoying do everything player that seems to hurt my Pirates every time she plays us. 633 assists, 189 digs and 55 kills last season. Second team all-conference. (D3VbWest)

  • Darby Stowers (Southwestern Transfer)

My 5th favorite granddaughter. She claims she is higher on the list but what does she know…she left my Pirates (insert tear). Had 137 kills and 77 blocks in 2019-20 with limited action since. Overjoyed I get to see her play another year. (D3VbWest)

CMS

  • Jackie Jones

Second team All-SCIAC last season finishing with 313.5 points (3.1 P/S). Jones was outstanding in the Wartburg Regional Final match finishing with 16 kills and 17.5 points. Her return basically means CMS only needs to replace an opposite, which was probably their deepest position last season. I don’t really have anything funny to say about Jones other than she’s just another annoyingly good player on an annoyingly good team. (D3VbWest)

Hardin-Simmons

  • Taylor Salone

This is another fun player to watch out of the middle that I think has another level to obtain despite putting together two really great seasons so far after transferring to HSU. She was second team All-ASC last season accumulating 200.5 Points (2.9 P/S). (D3VbWest)

St. Thomas

  • Alyssa Ajlouny

A very consistent opposite that pretty much gets you 2.7 Points/Set every time out. Scored 289 points last season with her highest hitting percentage to date. That gives the Celts 6 seniors so this should be a very tough team in the SCAC in 2022. (D3VbWest)

Sul Ross State

  • Annika Canaba

Canaba has always been my idol as she plays the middle/setter position (something I was never allowed to play) and that looks like it will continue for a 5th season. She was the Player of the Year in the ASC last season and an HM All-American. She was one of only two seniors on the 2011 squad so the Lobos should improve on one of their best seasons ever. (D3VbWest)

Texas Lutheran

  • Lexi Morris

Started all 33 matches and 120 sets during the 2021 season…Led all of NCAA Division-III with 737 digs…Led Texas Lutheran with 32 aces and added 102 assists…had a career-high 48 digs against Mary Hardin-Baylor, second most in a match in program history (10/13)…had a season-high four aces against Austin College (10/8). (TLU Volleyball Website)

  • Madison Weisinger

Played in 28 matches and 97 sets during the 2021 season…Led Texas Lutheran with 98 blocks, fifth in the SCAC, and ranked third in kills (171)…added 34 digs and 19 aces…recorded her first career double-double with career-high 10 blocks adding 10 kills against University of St. Thomas (10/24)…10 blocks are fourth most in a single match in program history…had a season high 13 kills against Schreiner (10/24). (TLU Volleyball Website)

Trinity

  • Emily Ellis

Likes to fake injuries to gain sympathy. 677 career kills and 318 career blocks. 2019 All-Region and Second Team All-American. Voted most annoying volleyball player in DIII. Father won for the parent’s division. (D3VbWest)

  • Sara Flynn

High-flyer that I enjoyed watching when I THOUGHT SHE WAS LEAVING! 521 career kills with 180 career blocks. SCAC All-Conference and HM All-American. Voted most annoying volleyball player in DIII. (D3VbWest)

  • Sarah Williammee

A consistent killer that you never see coming. She is silent death. 628 career kills with 179 career blocks. Second team all-conference and MVP SCAC Tournament. Voted most annoying volleyball player in DIII. (D3VbWest)

Whitworth

  • Maddie Lee

416 points last season while earning NWC Player of the year in 2021. HM All-American and Region X All-Region. Unlike those Trinity players, a joy to watch. (D3VbWest)
