Summer 2010

Summer, it is finally on its way out.  I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that I am not entirely fond of Kansas summers – it’s hot, and humid, oppressively so (those of you living in the Southern states, I salute you: you are stronger than me, I would absolutely wilt away).   So yeah, I’m pretty happy for the end of summer – a little sad too though, to be honest.  We had a good time this year, nasty heat aside.

I thought I’d give the season a proper send-off, and put together a post dedicated to our summer.  Don’t get me wrong though – I had fun pulling photos and looking back on all the fun from the past three months, but I am so excited for the fall.  Cool weather, the smell of fallen leaves, sweatshirts, football, pumpkin patches – bring it on, we’re ready.

Summer 2010 ~ Photo Essay

It all started with a Certain Child’s first birthday party…

Our Friday after-daycare tradition: a dip in the Chi O Fountain on campus.

St. John’s Annual Fiesta

Fun summer bracelets, I kept them on all summer (reminded me of friendship bracelets of my childhood).  Clipped them off on Labor Day, and I have to admit I am kinda glad to have my (very pale) wrist back.

Ice cream at Sylas and Maddy’s.

Time with the cousins.

Sunday drives in the Coupe.

Playing at the city kiddie pool.

Ice cream cones on the front porch.

Oh my gosh, this place defined our summer – The Burger Stand opened downtown and we frequented the place quite a bit.  Gourmet burgers are the new hot thing, I know, but trust – this place kills the competition.   Add the fact that it’s surprisingly child-friendly (dare I say, even toddler friendly), the beers on tap are quality (be still Scott’s beating heart), and Peter will sit still nicely for a long period if plied with truffle fries, and well.  You can see why we ate here a lot this summer.

Ah, the Denver/Estes Park trip…

I loved those pre-walker Vans.  Peter got his mileage out of them this summer (alas, his feet are too big for them so they have been lovingly packed away).

The county fair.

 Pooltime.

Old Settlers weekend.

Even more pool time…

BuskerFest

I spent way more time outside this year than I ever had since, well – since I was a kid myself.
