Steelers to Sign Thompson

Turns out the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t waiting too long to make offseason moves.

Today they announced the signing of 17 players to reserve/future contracts. The most notable name on the list of players signed is quarterback Skylar Thompson.

Thompson played for Miami this season. He played in two games, making one start. During those games he completed 21 of 33 passes for 187 yards, with no touchdowns, nor interceptions. He was also sacked six times.

He was a 2022 seventh-round pick of the Dolphins out of Kansas State.

This move seems a bit puzzling. Why if you’re going to sign a project quarterback, why not keep Justin Fields and actually play him? Maybe this is just to have a backup quarterback for next year. Either way I’m not entirely a fan of this move.
