The Pittsburgh Steelers played the New England Patriots on Sunday September 21st, 25. Let’s recap the action on today’s Steeler Monday.
The result was good for the Steelers in a 21- 14 victory. The win improves them to 2-1 on the year and 2-0 in road games. The Patriots fall to 1-2 with both of their losses this season coming at home.
The offense was good enough to get the win. Give credit to Aaron Rodgers for leading the drive that put them ahead with 2:16 remaining in the game with a 17- yard touchdown pass to Calvin Austin III. Rodgers went 16 of 23 passing for 139 yards, two touchdown and an interception. He wasn’t sacked though, so a win for the line keeping Rodgers up right.
Jaylan Warren ran for 47 yards on 18 carries, caught five passes for 34 yards. Kenneth Gainwell rushed for 16 yards on four carries with a touchdown. DK Metcalf caught three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. Chris Boswell was 3/3 on extra points.
The defense was great today as they allowed a season low 14 points. They also forced five turnovers and recorded five sacks. T.J. Watt recorded two sacks, a forced fumble and four quarterback pressures. Nick Herbig had eight pressures, four quarterback hits and a sack. Patrick Queen had 10 total tackles. Brandin Echols had an interception.
It was good to see the defense have their best game of the season. They put pressure on Drake Maye all game and it led them to victory, even with a bit of a slower day offensively. However, they did score more points than last week, and they were touchdowns. They didn’t rely on Boswell field goals for all their points which is good.
This feels like the usual Pittsburgh win, lower scoring, but just enough to win the game. They also beat a team they were favored against which was good. Lots of positive take aways from this game.
Now they face Minnesota next week in a bit of an early season test. Be sure to tune in next week to see how they fare.
