Son (2021)

Director: Ivan Kavanagh
Starring: Andi Matichak, Emile Hirsch, Luke David Blumm
When a young boy contracts a mysterious illness, his mother must decide how far she will go to protect him from terrifying forces in her past.
‘Son’ is well worth a watch, but I’m not sure I’m going to remember this. The film reminded me – to a certain extent – of ‘Antlers’ and ‘Clown’. In time, when I think back at ‘Son’, I think the lines will blur between these two movies, and ‘Son’.
‘Son’ features good performances, good make-up, good editing, and good sound effects. Come to think of it, the sound effects actually make the film scarier than it ought to be. ‘Son’ is mysterious and creepy well into the third act, and keeps the audience guessing almost until the end.
‘Son’ is a very disturbing movie, to say the least – to sea a child watching cartoons, and also eating people. The moral of the story here is how far one would go to saved – or simply help – a loved one. There is an unexpected twist ending as well.
As I said, although this was a good film in its own right, I just don’t know if I’m going to remember it.
Among others, ‘Son’ won awards for Best Film, and Best Original Score.
Would I watch it again? No. (I’d rather watch ‘Antlers’ or ‘Clown’ again).
