Skenes Super in Final Start before All-Star Break
S. Samek
Paul Skenes was dialed in again this afternoon. He pitched seven innings allowing no runs on now hits while striking out 11 and walking one hitter.
He threw 99 pitches with 65 being strikes. He earned the win to move to 6-0 as the Pirates won 1-0. His era lowered to 1.90.
Seems like the only thing stopping Skenes is the pitch count. This is already the second time he’s pitched seven no-hit innings and he’s only been here two months.
The relief pitchers couldn’t finish off the no -hitter either. Colin Holderman gave up a pair of them in fact. Granted those were the only two hits the Brewers had all game, but it would be so much better to see a no-hitter,
If nothing else, it puts even more of a spotlight on Skenes and makes it more likely we see him starting for the National League in this year’s all-star game.
