Skenes Starts Against Reds 6/17/24

S. Samek

Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates returned to PNC Park to start a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds last night. They entered last night’s game tied in the National League Central division for fourth place. How would Skenes do in the first game he’s pitched against the Reds?

Keeping up with the trend of strong starts. Skenes went six innings allowing one run in the first inning. He struck out seven while walking one and allowing six hits. He threw 69 of 96 pitches for strikes. He earned the win for his strong performance to move to 4-0 on the season as the Pirates bested the Reds 4-1.

The win puts the Pirates in third place in the division, for now at least. Though it’s good to see Skenes stay consistent and good. It’s a spark for the Pirates that is much needed.
