Skenes Starts 5/23/24

S. Samek

Paul Skenes was on fire during his last start. With six innings of no-hit ball before being removed due to pitch count. He did pick up his first Major League win though. So, with his next start coming today against a new foe in the San Francisco Giants how will he build on his last start?

He did pretty good actually. He pitched six innings and only gave up one run while allowing six hits and one walk while striking out three. He threw 62 of 93 pitches for strikes. He was in line for the win with the Pirates ahead 5-1 after six full innings.

However, the bullpen let him down by giving up six runs in three innings as the Pirates went on to lose by a 7-6 score. Skenes received a no decision keeping his record at 1-0.

It’s another good start for Skene’s. Like you take that start every time. It’s just a bit different to see a low strikeout total. I wouldn’t say it’s a cause for alarm, but just not use to seeing only three.

Overall, another good start to the Skenes era in Pittsburgh.
