Skenes Starting Report 9/16/24

S.Samek

Paul Skenes makes his next start against St. Louis tonight. How would he fare?

Honestly, not too bad. He threw six innings, allowed one run on four hits, struck out seven and walked one. He lowered his ERA to 2.07. He threw 102 pitches with 66 of them for strikes.

However, he did take the loss as the Pirates couldn’t get the bats going in a 4-0 shutout loss to the Cardinals. They could only muster up four hits on the night in wasting another good outing from Skenes. He now falls to 10-3 on the season and the Pirates sit at 71-79.

Seems like a typical start and result. Either Skenes dominates and gets help, or he dominates, and the bats go dormant. This one is another cause of the latter.

With the season winding down Skenes might only get 1-2 more starts if he isn’t shut down. Though if this is his last start of the year, not a bad way to go out.
