Skenes Over Merrill For Rookie of the Year
S. Samek
The wait is finally over, and we now know who the National League Rookie of the Year winner is for the 2024 season.
Paul Skenes and Jackson Merrill were set to run a tight race for the award. Skenes was named Rookie of the Year by two other publications, while Merrill picked up an award as well. Yet it would be up to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America to settle the score once and for all.
They ruled in favor of Paul Skenes. With 23 of 30 total first -place votes, the young Pirates phenom was named National League Rookie of the year for 2024. he is the second Pirate to win the award with the first being Jas0n Bay in 2004.
Jackson Chourio came in third place and Shota Imanaga came in fourth place. They didn’t receive any of the first-place votes.
Nice to see Skenes honored after a great season. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for his future in the MLB. Merrill as well. He looks to be an exciting player to watch for years to come. I mean keep an eye on the National League Central division as well, with three of the top four rookies from the list coming from this division the matchups should be exciting to watch in the future.
