Skenes looks to Stop Slide Against Mariners
S. Samek
The losing streak has reached 10 games after an 8-2 loss to San Diego Wednesday afternoon. This weekend the Pirates have a chance to end that streak against the Seattle Mariners at home this weekend.
Paul Skenes will start Friday nights game trying to stop the streak. Skenes last start was last Saturday against the Dodgers. He pitched six innings allowing six hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking one. He was the losing pitcher in the 4-1 defeat. He faces the Mariners for the first time in his carreer.
Seattle comes into the series on a losing streak of their own. They were swept by the Tigers in their last series, giving them a three-game losing streak. They sit three games back of the Astros for first place in the American League West. They are 3.5 games back of the second American League wild card spot.
This is the only time the Pirates and Mariners will play during the 2024 regular season.
Game one which will see one team end their losing skid is Skenes against Logan Gilbert for the starting pitching matchup. Game two starters will be Bailey Falter vs Luis Castillo. Then game three will see George Kirby start for Seattle, while Pittsburgh has yet to determine a starter.
Which losing streak comes to a close first? Which team will win the series?
