S. Samek
The first MLB rookie of the year poll of the second half of the 2024 has been released. On the National League side, it’s no surprise to who is leading the charge. On the American League side things are a bit closer.
In the National League Paul Skenes is running away with the award if it was given out today. Skenes finished with 33 first place votes, 30 ahead of second place Jackson Merrill of San Diego.
Skenes has been pitching lights out for the Pirates start after start. He is commanding the attention of the league as a whole not just for Rookie of the year, but as a Cy Young candidate as well.
Colton Cowser has the lead in the American League with 16 first place votes. In second place is Luis Gil of the Yankees with 14 votes. Cowser moved from third in the last ranking to first this time. He looks to be heating up at the right time as he has four home runs and a 1.100 OPS in 13 games sense July 14th, 2024.
Gil was in first in the last poll, but a rough string of five starts with an era of 8.85 saw his stock lower. He has sense improved to the tune of a 2.35 era in four starts after that.
Can Cowser and Skenes keep up the pace and finish with the award at the end of the year? Keep tuning in to find out.
