Sikic assists Platteville with huge day
UW-Platteville beat two very good teams today – Loras and Elmhurst – to put the finishing touches on winning a home tournament. Perhaps the better story was Pioneer junior setter Ali Sikic, who averaged 15.57 assists in the two wins. Sikic ranked seventh in the nation in assists per set through Oct. 3, according to the latest NCAA stats release.
In the win over Loras, Sikic became the first player in the Midwest or Central regions this season to have 50 assists in three sets. Sikic then put up 59 assists in four sets – third-best in the two regions this year – in the championship clincher over Elmhurst. Sikic led an offense that had 120 kills in seven sets (17.14/set) today, hit a combined .302 and reached 20+ kills in two sets.
Sikic was the only player in the two regions to have 50 assists in three sets last season, in a win over Trine.
