Director: Mike Mitchell

Rumpelstiltskin tricks a mid-life crisis burdened Shrek into allowing himself to be erased from existence and cast in a dark alternate timeline where Rumpelstiltskin rules supreme.

The first thing I noticed, was the stunning animation! Shrek now is a family man, and finds his life has fallen into monotony. He is unhappy and longing for something more…or maybe even something less…

For the series to end, we go back to the very beginning. The film so cleverly explores the ‘be careful what you wish for’ scenario. ‘Shrek Forever After’ is much more mature than its predecessors. Thankfully the film lacks the silly humor of ‘Shrek the Third’. The antagonist is Rumpelstiltskin, who is by far the best villain yet in the series. He truly is evil.

Donkey is hilarious again, as is Puss in Boots. The film paints an interesting picture we can apply to real life, and drew me in like a magnet. ‘Shrek Forever After’ is an incredible ending to an enjoyable franchise. This is a very special film. I’m still deciding whether I liked ‘Shrek 2’ or this one the best…

‘Shrek Forever After’ earned $752 million on a $165 million budget – the least in the series. Maybe it is due to the fact the film might not really appeal to a young audience, who might find the film too difficult to understand, and won’t relate to since it deals mainly with adult issues.

Would I watch it again? Absolutely!
