Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ is an interesting tale of the famous detective and his sidekick, Watson. I must be honest, the film was never high on my list of films I wanted to see. What besieged me to finally watch it, I don’t know, but I certainly am glad I did.

The first thing that grabbed me, was the incredible visuals and stunning photography, and I literally marveled at every scene. Each scene was done in such meticulous detail and shot to absolute perfection. The film truly has a unique look compared to other films. This alone made it worth the watch.

From trailers I’ve seen, I expected the film to be riddled with silly, slapstick humor. This was actually not the case. The humor was appropriate, not overbearing, and actually funny (not slapstick). The acting is very good, especially Robert Downey. I must be honest I did not find Rachel McAdams suited for the character.  She appeared too young and inexperienced for her character.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ is one of those rare gems that features striking visuals, stunning photography, a fantastic script, good acting, and a genius way everything ties at the end. Rather fascinating. This film should be watched a few times to fully comprehend the complex storyline. Awesome! This is indeed a masterpiece.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ was a box office success, raking in $524 million on a $90 million budget. It received several award nominations, including two Oscar nominations. It won awards for Best Actor (Robert Downey Jr), Best Thriller, Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects, Best Fire Stunt, among others.
