Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero (2018)

Director: Richard Lanni

The true story of a stray dog who joins his new master on the battlefields of the First World War. For his valorous actions, Sgt. Stubby is still recognized as the most decorated dog in American history.

It’s most interesting that they decided to give this dramatic true story the lighthearted, animated treatment. True story aside, this is a fascinating film that perfectly illustrates how amazing and loyal dogs are. I’m a dog lover, and Stubby stole my heart from the second he appeared on screen. The film hauled me in hook, line and sinker!

Based on fact, this is a truly remarkable story. I did some research on the actual events and the film is a pretty accurate depiction. The animation is awesome. Although animated, this might be a too deep and emotional film for kids. The film also features images of war, fighting, and killing that might not be suitable for a young audience. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the voicing and the score.

‘Sgt. Stubby’ is a fast-paced, heartwarming tale to enjoy again and again. It is dramatic, funny, cute, adorable, emotional, and action-packed. I loved it!

The film won several awards for Best Animation and Best Animated Feature.
