Self Discovery in Paris

Performing at Bistrot 82 in Paris
Since being in Paris a week, I’ve discovered that I haven’t been truly living in the manner I wish to live. I haven’t been being myself to the fullest of my potential. The worst part about it is, I never really noticed. I think many of us suffer from this issue. What happens is we become so used to the person we are in our current social standings that we cement it as that’s who we are. This perception we place on ourselves isn’t questioned because we aren’t forced to live outside it or are afraid to.
Let’s say you grow up the high school quarterback, got the same friends you’ve had since you were a kid, and dated the head cheerleader. That small town American storyline.
You end up playing for your local community college or some small school near by, essentially not having to really step outside your box and nobody is challenging you to. Well the person that you are is a sum of your experiences and interactions.
So ten years after finishing high school you’ve chose to not discover much else and settle into a life that is familiar. Sure, you’ve gone to Vegas and maybe Cancun, but where was the self examination to truly discover self?
You were too scared, too scared of potentially failing and worried about the perception of others. Now what you’ve failed to discover is that you can be anybody your mind can manifest.
Traveling alone to countries that people don’t know you can have considerable effects on the mind. For instance, how will you react to situations in a society you currently have no social standing in? I think many like myself will discover that who they think they are is not all that they are.
