Scream 2 (1997)

Director: Wes Craven

Starring: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette

Two years after the first series of murders, as Sidney acclimates to college life, someone donning the Ghostface costume begins a new string of killings.

Wes Craven is back in the Director’s chair for this ‘Scream’ sequel. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Jamie Kennedy reprise their roles. So why then did I hate ‘Scream 2’ as much as I did?

With the original ‘Scream’ Wes Craven took everything we love about slasher movies, and elevated it to new heights. With ‘Scream 2’ he took everything we loved about ‘Scream’ and made it annoying. Already with the opening scene with all the unnecessary racist remarks (intended to be funny!) I was tempted to stop watching because it was so stupid. Then came the first kill scenes, and I came this close to stop watching. This kill scene was so pathetic and silly, I almost cheered when the stupid bitch got killed. It was like a spoof of the first film. Oh, and the whole ‘Stab’ movie idea is a load of crap, as well. And why the hell did the movie goers act the way they did? They were watching a horror movie and not a comedy, right? Right??

Needless to say, after this laughably stupid opening scene, the movie just couldn’t hold my attention for the duration. ‘Scream 2’ indeed felt like a spoof. There were no suspense whatsoever and the humour was annoying and distracting. They also tried so hard to set up suspects, it was painful to watch. Nothing here is to be taken seriously. This was stupid in every aspect and I could hardly watch till the end. It was so forcibly theatrical and sensational.

Oh, and the twist revealing the killer…wha-hahahahahaha, seriously!!!!???!!! Ugh, just no!

Well, the audience obviously loved it, since ‘Scream 2’ earned $172 million on a $24 million budget.

Would I watch it again? Please, no!!
