SCIAC Preview (2025)
The SCIAC came out with their conference volleyball preview/prediction article on the upcoming volleyball season. This conference only allows the coaches to vote and La Verne was able to garner 7 of the 9 first-place tallies. (Coaches cannot vote for their own squad.) CMS finished second and received the other 2 first-place votes. Pomona-Pitzer was followed by Whittier to round out the Top 4. There was a bit of a gap between the bottom two teams in Occidental and Caltech. I do think the floor of this conference will be higher this season as both of these teams are returning the bulk of their squad from last season. Oxy is also coming in with 8 first-years and one transfer.
In my Preseason Top 25, I had La Verne as my number one overall ranked team so count me among the 7 coaches that had them first on their ballot. I also had CMS ranked so they are my choice to finish second. I do think Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier (in some order) will be third and fourth as these two programs seem to always be close when it comes to volleyball. I probably give the edge to PP simply because they lost less to graduation and had no surprises with early departures. I would also go with Chapman as my dark horse as they return the bulk of their team.
The SCIAC article also highlights some of the best players in conference and one thing I found interesting is that I currently have a player on my first team Preseason All-Region team (to come out next week) that wasn’t mentioned. Looks like I’m on another limb with my picks.
