SCAC Predictions
The SCAC has released their predictions on the upcoming volleyball season. In a vote of coaches, Trinity took the top spot with 7 first place votes. Colorado College was second with 2 first place votes. Every coach had these two teams as their first or second choice. This result also lines up with the AVCA Coaches Poll that had these two teams as the top 2 in the nation. The SCAC article does have blurbs on each team so I recommend reading it.
You can find my SCAC Preview article here if you wish to compare. Here is the complete SCAC Poll:
The overall ordering isn’t that far off from what I had but there are some minor differences. The first is that the coaches have Austin College and Southwestern tied for 3rd while I have Southwestern there and Austin College in 5th (behind St. Thomas). History tells us that Southwestern will finish in the top 3 but I also believe this is supported by the team that is returning. I also liked St. Thomas slightly more than Austin but this really could go either way in the end. Other than that, the order is identical.
We may need to step back for a second and just appreciate this conference for a moment. There are very few conferences that can claim the top two teams in the nation at any one time. If you think of great conference duos my mind would go to Calvin and Hope, WashU and Emory and CMS and Cal Lutheran. We now have to add these two teams to that selective mix. The intriguing part of this is whether Southwestern can insert themselves into the two as they have done in the past. I guess what I’m saying is this is going to be a fun year in the SCAC.
The SCIAC is expected to drop their preview tomorrow but, on a personal note, I should be checking into the hospital. That could mean a possible delay in my follow-up article. I could also be laying in a bed with tubes stuck into me with nothing to do. In that case, expect 4000 words on the SCIAC!
