SCAC Mid-Conference Review
The SCAC is unique in that they play their entire conference schedule over 4 weekends and two of those weekends are in the books. The current standings are:
Order | School | Record |
1 | Colorado College | 7-0 |
2 | Trinity | 6-1 |
3 | Southwestern | 5-2 |
4 | Texas Lutheran | 4-3 |
5 | Austin College | 3-4 |
6 | Centenary | 2-5 |
7 | Dallas | 1-6 |
8 | Schreiner | 0-7 |
So, as you can see, we have a nice and neat standings list (for now). The SCAC takes 6 teams to their tournament with the first two teams getting byes in the first round. With three strong teams, it’s obvious that winning the regular season is important as you avoid having to play both of the other two top teams.
The next weekend of conference matches will take place October 13-14 with Trinity, SU, TLU and Schreiner taking place at Trinity. The other side of the division will play at Colorado. The crossover weekend follows and will take place at Centenary. If you take home court into account and past results it would seem that the current order will most likely remain (although you never know). It is interesting to note that the last four years the SCAC final has featured both Trinity and Southwestern.
As a quick review, the coaches predicted Trinity, Southwestern, Colorado, tie between Austin and TLU, Dallas, Schreiner and Centenary. I predicted Trinity, Southwestern, Colorado, Austin, Dallas, TLU, Centenary and Schreiner.
So our mid-term report card isn’t half bad. We both recognized the top 3 teams but Colorado College has certainly been a tad unexpected. I’ve been a little surprised by TLU but having seen them in person with the emotion they bring I can see the errors in my way.
The SCAC championship will be played at Schreiner and if the standings hold this will be the second year in a row where the host team will not qualify. (Centenary failed to qualify last year as the host site.)
I’ll try to do a mid-conference review for the NW and SCIAC early next week. The ASC is split into two divisions and have reached the half way point but they don’t do their second crossover for two more weeks. Probably means I need to set aside sometime this week to do theirs.
