Saturday, Sept 27 Match Day!

Updates: QPR still on. 1-1 for those on the bandwagon with me.

IWU up 2-0 on Marietta. Second set was 25-15. Fear the Titans.

Is the NCAA Scoreboard not working this morning?

Geez. Trying to navigate the UAA matches is tough. Is there only a stream for Emory matches? I really hate schools that gives us a video stream link and it’s to their conference page. Give me the direct link to the match.

Another “completed” match from FloSports for the NYU/WashU match? Do this do this when there is no stream so they just mark it as completed. How do you parents/fans deal with this crud?

QPR’s best goal scorer alone 10 yards from the open goal. Yes, it’s still 1-1. Ugh.

Virginia Wesleyan takes set one over Haverford 25-21. This may be undefeated VWU’s best opponent so far this season. WashU 26-24 over NYU in set one. Emory 25-21 over CMU in set one. IWU leading big in the third set. They.Can’t.Be.Stopped.

IWU’s Taylor French is really good. She’s not having a great hitting day right now but she’s had 9 aces. She has one of the best serves I’ve seen this season, so far. Scary that IWU is dominating without a big hitting performance from French. And, with saying that, I should point out that Alex Bardouniotis is having that big hitting day. That…then…is your IWU minute.

Does Mary Washington not do Live Stats? Why are you people making things so tough to watch or keep track of volleyball!?!?!

W&L won set one against UMW. No idea of the score.

Trinity with the easy sweep of Oglethorpe. Sewanee will be going up 2-1 on Rhodes as they have a big lead in the third.

Trinity got to use their bench so shout out to Aeris Vera who got 3 kills in her one set.

IWU with the sweep.

The NCAA Scoreboard is simply the NCAA Scheduleboard at this point. Oh, and the times may be wrong on some matches.

QPR 1-1. Not great but unbeaten in our last 4. Turning on Emory.

So, at Emory, they have 3 courts going at the same time. All are captured in the ONE stream. Good luck figuring out what is happening in court 3 although it just ended. This is sub-optimal.

Here is your Top 10 in NPI through yesterday:

CMU takes set two against Emory. 1-1. NYU took set two. They are now 1-1. VWU up 2-0 on Haverford.

Sewanee takes set four and beats Rhodes 3-1. Remember that Rhodes beat Centre last week.

Alarms at Emory!!!! And, there off. Coach Jones running to the door that was activated and shut it down.

Switching over to Berry/Southwestern mode. It requires the computer so no updates for a bit. Just know I’m scared. Oh, Emory beat CMU 3-1. Last two sets weren’t close.

Berry sweeps Southwestern. I feared that. SU played the last two sets close and actually had late leads before giving it up both times (25-23 and 26-24). Very frustrating. Berry’s defense is good again this year. They have enough offense to be (obviously) dangerous. Blakely Barnes had just 5 kills but 2 solos and 5 block assists were big. It was annoying that live stats didn’t work for most of the match.

Speaking of not working, NCAA Scoreboard is now working.

Catching up on the action, WashU beat NYU in 5-sets. VWU beat Haverford in 4-sets. W&L get the sweep over Gettysburg.

Well, the undefeated IWU hope is dashed by Hope. Hope wins in four sets. I am a little surprised over this result.

As someone mentioned in the comments, Middlebury took the first two sets from Williams but Williams is leading in the third. Big NE match here. Also in the region, Johns Hopkins takes the first set from Tufts but Tufts lead in the second.

VWU leads CNU 2-0 right now. A win here probably gets them ranked. My issue was their schedule but they played well today against good teams. We’ll have to see if someone else makes room for them.

Looks like Centre beat Millsaps in 4-sets while Hendrix swept Centenary. Hendrix is enjoying the SCAC so far this season. ETBU sweeps HPU so the Tigers have marked their territory in the ASC half way through their conference season. (Yeah, that does seem crazy.)

HSU up 2-1 on UMHB right now. With a win, I think UMHB would be in last place in conference. They would be tied with HPU but they lost to them. I did not see that coming half-way through the ASC conference season. (Yeah, that does seem crazy.)

Big win for Tufts taking down JHU in four sets. It’s also big for NE as the JHU ripple is a rather nice one.

In our last game to watch, St John Fisher sweeps Kean. Two sets were very close. Big win for SJF.

In the West…HSU did beat UMHB to secure second in the ASC at the half-way point. (Yeah, that does seem crazy.)

VWU sweeps CNU. Salisbury gets a four set win over Lebanon Valley.

LETU sweeps Ozarks while McMurry gets a five set win over Concordia. I watched a bit of the Colorado College/St Thomas match. Interesting call at 20-20 in the third set. CC got the sweep but it was tight at times. Camille Sherrill really hits a hard ball.

Southwestern gets the sweep of Rhodes. They get Centre tomorrow in a battle for 3rd place in conference.

Whoa. The Live Stats for Trinity/Sewanee was backwards. I thought Sewanee had the sweep but it was not to be.

I just noticed that St Mary’s (IN) lost two matches today. They are no longer undefeated. Middlebury beat Williams in 5-sets giving them their first blemish. We also know that IWU took their first loss to Hope. That leaves La Verne, Virginia Wesleyan and ETBU as our only undefeated teams.

I’ve done this enough that when I see a Live Stats score that doesn’t make sense, I go to the video. (Or, at least I try to.) Right now Live Stats has Oglethorpe over Centre. The video, has the reverse. Believe what you want but Centre should win this match and it probably should be a sweep.

We are into the late matches. I was watching a bit of a few matches. Centre did sweep Oglethorpe. That sets up a nice match tomorrow with Southwestern in a battle for third in conference. Berry handled Millsaps in a sweep.

Oxy shocked Chapman with a five set win. I watched a bit of this along with the Whittier/Redlands match that went to four sets. Whittier ended up winning this. Whittier looks really good when I watch them. Either CMS/Caltech started earlier than listed or that was a very fast match. CMS in a sweep.

The Live Stats aren’t working for the La Verne/PP match. Why? I watched the first set here. PP played well but La Verne was just too strong.

In the NWC matches, Willamette is up 1-0 on PLU but the Lutes are destroying it in the second set. George Fox won their set one and are leading in the second against Lewis & Clark. Another long season for LC. Linfield beat Whitman in set one.

In the PLU match, setter Ayre Takamoto has 12 digs through 1+ sets. That’s seems crazy high even if she was the libero. She also has 11 assists so she must be passing it to herself?

Depending on this PP/ULV match, the only real upset today was Tufts over Johns Hopkins. Injury or not for the Blue Jays, teams are just too close this season. An injury changes the dynamic drastically. An illness…a bad day…it’s anyone’s year.

ULV leads 2-0 but you wouldn’t know from Live Stats because it still doesn’t work. #1 on the court…#382 off the court.

George Fox is going to get the sweep. PLU/Willamette are 1-1 with PLU leading in the 3rd. Linfield/Whitman are 1-1 with Linfield leading in the 3rd.

Watched the end of the La Verne match. PP took set three in a closely fought game. PP does have some power and libero Corrina Benson is really good. She actually does the “Duck” serve I talked about a couple of weeks ago. She basically stands at the end of the gym and serves a long floater. Good to see. There are no live stats for this game that I found. Grabb had a nice match for PP (I think). Mya Ray did Mya Ray things. La Verne will make mistakes but they are just so relentless and provide so much pressure that you have to be a special team to withstand that and respond in kind. Fun game to watch.

In the NWC, PLU won in four as did George Fox. Linfield also won in four in a very close match where no set was won by more than 3 points.

We have SAA and SCAC matches tomorrow to close out the week.

National Games to Watch:

9:30 amIWU vs Marietta – Big time matchup here. IWU has been rolling with virtually not slip ups. Marietta coming off the loss to Hope.

10 amNYU vs WashU – The UAA goes today at Emory. I’m unsure about WashU but this weekend should help clarify.

Carnegie Mellon at Emory – Emory’s schedule hasn’t been the strongest but that changes with the UAA matches this weekend. They need the wins to boost their NPI.

Haverford vs Virginia Wesleyan – At the CNU Tournament. VWU’s schedule has been weak but they are undefeated. Big NPI points available here.

12:30 pmGettysburg vs Wash & Lee – W&L could use a win like this to stop the slide. Gettysburg looking to get back into the at-large race.

IWU at Hope – Two tough matches for IWU today. Fun match here.

1 pmMiddlebury at Williams – Hard to say what we have here but Williams is undefeated and I thought Middlebury would be pretty good prior to the season. Big NESCAC match.

1:30 pmTufts vs Johns Hopkins – Always good to see the NE teams play good teams outside of region. Good match here.

2:30 pmKean vs St John Fisher – Each team with one-loss. Both teams have good NPIs on the line.

West Schedule:

Random Thoughts:

QPR plays at 9 am. We’ve won 3-straight. Get on that bandwagon while there is space!

Starting with the West…ASC has the other two matches today. UMHB/HSU is the fun one. Doesn’t really matter unless someone can beat ETBU but there is bragging rights. (I wrote this prior to Howard Payne’s victory over UMHB. Two through four is up for grabs in the ASC.)

In the C2C, CNU is hosting a tournament as is Mary Washington. A number of fun matches. The big one is Virginia Wesleyan/CNU as VWU put their undefeated record on the line.

The NWC play the reverse matches for the weekend. PLU/Willamette is the big match tonight. Whitman/Linfield may have 4th place implications.

We have the SAA MEGA POD at Berry this weekend. Everyone that is anybody in the SAA will be there. I need to make one of these one day. The big match today is Southwestern/Berry. Tough one for my Pirates. Centre struggled last week but get Millsaps and Oglethorpe this week. They should be fine. Trinity will lay down some hurt. Interested to see Rhodes play as they surprised Centre last week.

The SCAC has four matches today. The big one is the St Thomas/CC match. Looking forward to seeing all of the Garden of the Gods pictures! LOL. Concordia/McMurry should be close.

The SCIAC has four matches tonight. Whittier/Redlands is a good watch. Whittier wins this in the past but Redlands are coming for teams this season. Pomona-Pitzer goes to La Verne. Should be a La Verne sweep but conference matches are always difficult to predict.

The national matches I highlighted are all fun. Some aren’t the biggest names are the top teams but teams I’m interested to seeing how good they really are.
