Saturday, Sep. 11 Match Day!

Updates: Doctors threw me a curveball this morning and want me to do a breathing treatment. That means I won’t be able to make it over to UT Dallas.

Breathing treatment done. Discharged from hospital after I threatened to leave (not that “in-your-face” but I needed them to hurry it up) and finally home just in time to see the last set of the Trinity/CMS match. Two really good teams. CMS wins 3-1 so a new #1 will be atop the rankings next week.

CC leading Belhaven 2-0, PP leading Puget Sound 2-1. Looks like the Whitman schedule changed. I’ll fix below. TLU up 2-0.

The Cal Lutheran staff on Live Stats just haven’t figured out how to clear out the data from the previous match. Been a problem all weekend.

The camera work at UTD for the CMU/Southwestern match is horrid. Lots of closeups of the net regardless of where the ball is. Weird. They have a nice setup there. Don’t even need to move the camera.

Sorry for being boring today. Just relaxing at home. Southwestern looked good against CMU and will probably use this undefeated weekend to get nationally ranked.

I can’t wait to unwind the regional ranking implications from the Whittier Tournament. Could be a real mess.

Had some late birthday family time so didn’t get to watch anything. Whittier/UCSC is going on now and I think that’s the only match left. Looks like Whitworth/La Verne was canceled due to Covid. Not sure which side this was on as both played today. Crazy how it can be tested during a tournament but I assume a result comes back from a previous test. As always, take care.

Tough weekend for Cal Lu against good teams. CMS was able to beat the top two teams in the nation on the same day. So, pretty good? Pomona-Pitzer is a bit weird. They go 1-6 to start the season and then win both matches today against really good teams. They may have figured something out in time for conference play. Note – Was just told PP beat PLU yesterday. Another Stats error. Hope they’re aren’t more of those.

Chapman gets their first win today but loses to UC Santa Cruz. Jessi Lumsden played so good to see her back. The Banana Slugs now have claim to be the second best team in California. Mills College got to play but struggled in their matches. Sorry to see that but it’s a tough environment there with the status of the school.

I’ll clean up the page tomorrow and do the Weekly Wrap-Up. Lots to cover and I didn’t do a good job on notes this week. Ugh.

Whoops. Went back to watch the end of the Whittier/UCSC match and I guess the video was stopped early. UCSC got the sweep so everything is over.

National results not involving West teams thanks to Ricky:

Random Thoughts: The picture is from a couple of days ago. The nurses love it when I mess with their stuff. My hope is to be discharged tomorrow. If I’m feeling lucky and things break correctly, I may (very small chance) go to the Southwestern/UT-Dallas match at 12:30. I doubt we do but I’m holding out some hope. Regardless, updates today will be spotty.

Real briefly, here my rundown.

McMurry/Sul Ross State is an interesting ASC matchup to me. Normally, this is McMurry pretty easy but the Lobos at home would be my choice here.

Southern Arkansas, which some teams are playing, are DII, by the way.

Southwestern/UT-Dallas holds a personal interest for me but also interesting to see if the Comets have figured things out and take this match. Before the season they would be my pick but now you have to figure it will be Southwestern.

I’m interested in how the entire SCIAC/NWC matches play out. UC Santa Cruz is also interesting to see if they can continue their good start. The UCSC/Chapman match is really big. With Chapman starting 0-2 (and remember I thought they could win the SCIAC) if they drop both their matches today, I’m not sure how they recover. They do go to Trinity’s tournament next week so there is hope. The thing none of us can forget is the impact of Covid on these athletes. (Chapman had to cancel matches last week because of it.) Just because they come back doesn’t mean they come back to full strength.

TLU won’t be challenged by Rust but that Westminster match could be interesting. TLU is off to a great start and this should continue today.

Trinity versus CMS for control of Region X? Colorado College obviously has something to say but if CMS wins that there isn’t a lot CC can do about it. Both teams looked really good in the matches I saw them play. Trinity’s experience has to count for something, right?

Illinois College’s matches got canceled. Not sure why, yet.

Watching CMU/UTD as I write this. Southwestern were beat two years ago by Carnegie Mellon. Hoping this time around things will be different.

Mills College will make their first appearance of the year today and tomorrow.

Emory/CMS is another great match-up but no clue what Emory was doing yesterday. CMS on the other hand played a great match against WashU. So, Emory wins this, right?
