Saturday, October 14 Match Day

Update: Well, Louisiana College couldn’t get their first DIII win today as they got swept by Sul Ross State.

Just an amazing SU/Trinity match today at Trinity. SU had match points in 4th set only to lose 31-29. Then down 9-14 in 5th they score 7 straight for the win. Trinity’s defense is fun to watch. Service receive for SU was great for most of the match. Setter Megan Grimes and RS Kate Mitchell were special today. Kirby Smith of Trinity led all hitters in kills.

Colorado College playing at home is very tough and they just swept through their divisional conference matches this weekend with ease.

The fourth (and last conference tourney) spot in the SCIAC sees a three-team race where a half game separates the teams. Chapman needed today’s win to stay in that race. Oxy and Cal Lu are about to play matches to see if they can maintain their position.

The weekend couldn’t have gone better for Pac Lu – 2 wins against tough teams and now have a one game lead in conference and really a 2 game lead with tiebreakers. AND, with 6 matches left they play 5 at home. AND, Pacific just lost.

Whittier a little surprised by Oxy tonight. Still early but Occidental is trying to stake a claim to a conference tourney spot. Goes 5 and heartbreak for Oxy as they drop the set 16-14.

Random Thoughts: Full slate of matches today. Sul Ross State and Louisiana College face off in the morning and the winner will have their first victory in the ASC. LC is still looking for their first win EVER in DIII. HUGE match between Southwestern/Trinity today. If SU has any chance at the #1 seed in the SCAC tournament they need this match. UTT/UMHB is another good match. UMHB seems to be rolling right now. Southwestern/TLU is a perfect trap game for the Pirates. A hard fought win or loss to Trinity and then turn around and play this super emotional team will be tough. In the NWC, Pac Lu attempts to avenge their earlier loss to Whitman at home. Occidental tried to continue their SCIAC tournament run with a good match against Whittier.
