Update:

Remember Conference Tournament Previews can be found on the left side menu.

I added a post under this one that contains my thoughts on the day’s events and how it impacts Selection Day.

UTD up 2-0 on Concordia. Loser goes home.

Concordia is eliminated as UTD gets the sweep. UTD will face UMHB later today.

Easy set one win for Colorado College.

Colorado College now up 2-0.

Colorado College gets the sweep and will face the winner of Southwestern/Trinity tomorrow.

UMHB takes set one. Lead UTD 1-0.

UTD with a strong set two. Tied 1-1.

Southwestern takes the first set 25-23.

UMHB one set away. 2-1.

Southwestern trying for the upset. Up 2-0 after taking set two 26-24.

UTD takes set four and they are going to a fifth set. UTD must win to stay alive.

Seven straight points and Trinity rolls to a set three win. Still trail 2-1.

UMHB is dancing! Congratulations! UTD needs an at-large.

Southwestern with the upset. Will play Colorado College tomorrow.

Back home for a few minutes.

UMHB was led today by Corinne Novak with 18 kills. Miranda Klein, forced into the setter role had 57 assists and was named tournament MVP.

Southwestern was led by Jamison Duck with 14 kills. Alyssa Dooley with 12 kills while hitting 0.273.

CMS takes set one in the SCIAC final over Cal Lutheran.

Pacific Lutheran sweeps Lewis & Clark and wins the automatic Pool A bid from the NWC. Remember, the NWC doesn’t have a tournament. Danielle Skibiel led PLU with 11 kills.

Cal Lutheran lead the entire set two until 23-23. CMS then sends invites out for a block party and wins the next two points. CMS up 2-0.

Great season by Whitworth. I don’t see them getting an at-large. They did what they needed to do tonight but one slip up cost them the Pool A bid. A conference tournament final between Whitworth and PLU needed to happen.

CMS sweeps Cal Lutheran. Not a real pretty match to be honest. Phoebe Madsen one dig away from a triple-double. Impressive in 3 sets.

We now have 3 of the 4 Pool A bids for the West Region assigned – CMS, PLU and UMHB. Either Colorado College or Southwestern will get the other one. Even though I’m a Southwestern supporter, if you support a bubble team you want Colorado College to win this one.

Random Thoughts:

UMHB is holding court in the ASC. UTD will need to get by Concordia again to have another shot. Remember, whichever team comes out of the elimination match must beat UMHB twice in a row to claim the championship.

Colorado College gets Dallas and they had some vocal students on Friday. Due to the distance, Colorado College doesn’t travel well. Advantage Dallas but it probably will not be enough.

Trinity and Southwestern in the SCAC Tournament for the 379th time. Trinity should win this but Southwestern knows it’s lose and go home as they will not get an NCAA at-large bid.

Good final in the SCIAC. CMS should win but Cal Lu has beaten CMS at their place once this year. Cal Lu probably makes it into the NCAA win or lose but it’s always better to know for sure.

In the NWC it’s all about PLU and Lewis & Clark. L&C just beat Pacific at home and they will not go gently into that good night. PLU wins and they are in the NCAA Tournament. Lose and Whitworth wins then Whitworth gets the bid. If they both lose then in a strange bit of logic by the NWC, the bid goes to Linfield. (Joke)

Bottom line, by the end of tonight we’ll know two of the 4 teams going to the NCAA Tournament from the West Region.
