Saturday, Nov 4 Match Day!
Updates: Fixed the Oxy/CMS match time.
SCIAC standings is a mess. Regardless of what happens today, CMS has the first seed. They can be tied by La Verne but they hold the tiebreaker with a better set record against them. They won in 3-sets and lost in 4-sets.
If Whittier beats La Verne today and Pomona-Pitzer win then there is a 3-way tie. Pomona-Pitzer wins that tiebreaker and would be placed second. They have a better match record against the other two teams (3-1). At that point, I believe it goes to a two way tiebreaker and that will depend on how the match goes today between Whittier and La Verne. La Verne beat Whittier earlier this season in 5-sets. If Whittier wins in 3- or 4-sets then they would hold the tiebreaker and be placed 3rd. That would leave a CMS/La Verne match as a semifinal game. If La Verne wins and Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier tie for third then Whittier wins the tiebreaker on head-to-head points for/against. If both La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer win then Whittier is fourth. So, anything can happen today!
Redlands played better as the year went along. Look for them to be even better next season.
Congratulations to Pacific Lutheran on an undefeated conference season. Great year for the tournament to come into existence, right?
La Verne is taking care of business against Whittier. If that result holds, CMS will get Whittier and La Verne will get Pomona-Pitzer.
And La Verne gets the sweep. The SCIAC standings are nice and neat just like everyone thought they would be.
Nice weekend for Willamette as they take down Puget Sound and George Fox and secure the 4th spot in the tournament. They are on fire heading into the tournament. Maybe only second to the team they will face, PLU.
Random Thoughts: Last day of the regular season. We will have a number of teams that don’t qualify for their conference tournament have their season end today. With them goes a ton of seniors who will have played their last competitive match of volleyball. After next weekend, we’ll lose most of our teams and seniors with just 64 teams left to play. It goes by so fast. Congrats to those that can hang on and play another day.
Dallas is hosting a little tournament today, which is kind of cool and something more of the SCAC teams probably need to do with this extra week.
Sul Ross State plays their last DIII match today. Good luck in DII next year.
HSU/UTD might have seeding implications for HSU. One of the few matches today that matter.
Whittier/La Verne should be interesting. Let’s see how the new Whittier does.
That’s about it for the matches that can change a regular season outcome. According to Reed, the Puget Sound/Willamette match last night (writing this before it’s done) will depend the 4th seed into the NWC Tournament. If Puget Sound wins it then I’ll double-check and post my thoughts in the Update.
