Saturday, Feb. 27 Match Day!
Update: Got this out late on a day with early matches. Oh well.
Austin College wins their match 3-1. They again lose the first set and then handle up on TLU pretty easily after that. Double-digit kills for Olivia Linton and Caitlin Mahoney. Three solo blocks for setter Kacie Hall.
Trinity does get the sweep from Schreiner. Second set sees Trinity hit for 0.457 as a team. 16 kills on 35 swings with NO errors. I’m not seeing Emma Funk in the lineup today so hope all is well there. Brette Thornton filled in with 7 kills on 9 swings. The other middle, Emily Ellis, had 7 kills on 13 swings. Just a deep squad.
Colorado College takes the first set from Dallas and lead in the second.
Tigers beat Dallas pretty easily in three sets. Nine kills each for Vasquez, Freeburg and Libacis.
Trinity gets the double-header sweep against Schreiner. Emily Ellis with 8 kills and a team leading 11 points.
Colorado College is up 2-0 against Dallas. I was able to stop down and watch a few points. I guess I brought luck to the Tigers as they rolled.
I missed the Concordia/HPU matches today. I don’t think they were on the ASC Schedule or got there late. Added them now.
Whitman takes the first set but then Whitworth comes back to win three easy sets.
Puget Sound ties up the match at 1-1 by winning set two 30-28. Third set goes 31-29…also to Puget Sound. PLU again not playing with Iverson. Heard she may be back next week.
Nice match for Puget Sound tonight. Two really tough sets that go long and then a strong fourth set to pick up the win. Samantha Johnson had an efficient night with 10 kills and only 2 errors. Siacotos and Holman led the team with 14 points each.
Random Thoughts: Ranks shown above are from the AVCA Top 25 poll.
Austin College/TLU – Boy, I had this one wrong yesterday. Austin did come out really poor but then won three straight to take the match. Should be close today. Love those 9 a.m. matches.
Trinity/Schreiner – Schreiner has had to open with the toughest schedule getting Colorado College last time out and now Trinity. They played well but Trinity should be too much for them. Still, the Tigers can’t overlook them or Schreiner will surprise.
Colorado College/Dallas – First match for Dallas. Both of these teams are in my West Region Top 10. Colorado College is facing a tougher test this week and history says should win. I do like Dallas so this will be interesting to see how they come out in this one. I think the Tigers win but I’d like to see Dallas take a set or two just to justify my ranking.
Whitman/Whitworth – Great performance from Whitman last night but not enough in the end. Whitman had their service game on early and the Pirates really struggled. Starting with set three, however, things changed and Whitworth was able to stay in system and that was really the ballgame.
PLU/Puget Sound – Love those late west coast 5-set matches when all I want to do is go to sleep. Puget Sound really played even with PLU last night so that had to be a tough loss. I need to see if PLU freshman Sianna Iverson plays after only getting in 1 set last night. She’s really been a hitting star early but struggled a bit against Whitworth last week and then saw limited time.
