Samantha Rosenberger Chooses Barry University; Inches Closer to College Softball and Marine Biologist Dream

“Softball has been berry, berry good to me,” Samantha Rosenberger. Well, not quite. This play on words is from the Saturday Night Live skit from 1978 that featured Garret Morris as Chico Escuela, an immortal baseball player who played for the Chicago Cubs.

Times were weird back then. Disco, short shorts with tube socks, and waiting for the phone. What weird times. Thank goodness we’ve progressed and changed in many ways. Our world isn’t perfect, but it’s better.

So, why am I referring to all of these things? It’s about to all make sense as I dive more deeply into the story of Samantha Rosenberger, one of the latest commits to Barry University. Not berry, but Barry. The Barry University Buccaneers to be exact.

The private university located in Miami Shores, Florida shows progress; progress of just how far recruiting is stretching and has stretched since the introduction of the internet. It even shows progress in that it’s possible to study to become a marine biologist and not sacrifice your college athletic dreams to do so.

The Riverside High senior announced her commitment in late August. With this decision now made, she can now focus on enjoying what’s left of her time as a high schooler. Her career has already been noteworthy, winning three letters, being a two-year captain, being named the Offensive Player of the Year, and winning the Lady Panther award, equivalent to the Team MVP award.

She’s also played alongside some of the best talent the state of Pennsylvania has to offer for Team Pennsylvania, a program she credits immensely for impacting her recruiting and helping her reach the college level.

“I could never put into words just how much Team Pennsylvania has done for me and other athletes,” she explained. “This organization has completely changed my life. The overwhelming amount of opportunity and exposure that has resulted from me playing for Team Pennsylvania is unbelievable. I have developed some of the strongest relationships from this team. The girls on the team are like a second family. It has been so exciting seeing what they’re going to do after high-school. My coaches care so much about our success. We are pushed hard only because they know that we are good. They make sure that we get what we have worked for. It feels amazing to play for coaches you know want you to do well.”

The type of love she’s gotten from Team Pennsylvania is the same type of love she felt when she visited Barry University.

“From the moment I stepped on campus, I instantly felt at home. Everyone that I interacted with, whether it was a student, professor, or coach, they were such genuine people. I also think this plays a big role in why it’s the right place for me. At Barry, I feel like I will find a second home. The coaching staff was also amazing. I got the chance to talk to Coach Janelle and Coach Holly a lot. They were so personable and honestly just great to talk to. We had great conversations and I can’t wait to get to know them better.”

Interestingly, Barry features players from all over the world, something that will allow this small town Pennsylvania girl to learn more about different cultures and traditions that her teammates hold close to them.

The young girl who dreamed of one day playing in the College World Series is one step closer to being a college player. Even if she may leave Pennsylvania in the coming months to fulfill this dream, she will always remember how much this region has provided her with, including a collection of young girls who look up to her and have taken lessons from her.

Best of luck as you tackle senior year, Samantha! Thank you for the chance to share your success and path to college ball 🥎🐬
