Director: Philip Kaufman

Starring: Sean Connery, Wesley Snipes, Harvey Keitel

When an escort girl is found dead in the offices of a Japanese company in Los Angeles, detectives Web Smith and John Connor act as liaison between the company’s executives and the investigating cop Tom Graham.

‘Rising Sun’ is a confusing thriller I didn’t find all that exciting. I wouldn’t have missed anything had I not seen it.

MircroCon – a computer chip company – is about to be sold to a Japanese company. During the gala, a young woman is murdered. Capt John Connor (Sean Connery) and Lt Webster Smith (Wesley Snipes) investigate the case.

A Security camera in the room where the murder took place will provide the answers, but they discover a disc has been removed from the camera. In order to find the killer, they must find the disc, but when the disc is found, they discover the disc was tampered with, and must now further investigate to find the original recording.

As I said, I didn’t find this all that interesting and it was also confusing at times. The film jumps around a lot in the beginning, adding to the confusion. If you’re into mystery thrillers, give this one a skip. There are far better ones out there. Even the likes of Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes couldn’t save this for me. This is ultimately forgettable.

Interestingly, ‘Rising Sun’ was still a hit, earning $107 million on a $40 million budget. Star power!!

Would I watch it again? No.
