RIP Chinx
He started rapping in middle school. Who would’ve guessed that from the lunch table spittin’ with his boys, he would come so far? By High School, Lionel Pickens had his heart set on his music, and began investing in his sound. He used his drug money to get studio time and because his eyes were always so low, they called him Chinky. The name stuck and eventually transformed along with his style and persona into the name we all know today: Chinx. Teamed up with hip hop power houses French Montana and Harry Fraud, Chinx took over New York and the rap community for quite some time. Best known for his hit song, “I’m a Coke Boy”, Chinx has a body of work that is not only hot and relevant, but true to his life style. At 31, he had already made a name for himself in New York and the music industry as a whole.
This morning at approximately
5am
, police responded to a 911 call in Briarwood, Queens where they found Chinx with multiple gunshot wounds in a car on Queens Boulevard and 84th Drive. Chinx was transported to Jamaica Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Chinx had so much more to give us, and so much more to say, but there is no doubt that he made his mark on the game; and for that, we must be grateful. Rest in peace, Lionel Pickens #CokeBoys #YoungAbuDhabi
