Resident Evil 6; The Search For Ignorance
Resident Evil 6, handedly the most predictable sequel since the inevitable announcement of GTA V, and already various sites, magazines etc, have begun to consult their gaming crystal balls, deliberating with psychic’s and listening intently to their curious premonitions, and generally, holding their fingers aloft and see which way the wind blows, (as far as my limited understanding goes), in an attempt to hypothesise the complexities concerning a game will still know little about. Talk of reestablishing it’s rather tainted credibility, a chance for renovation, reinvention, um…Rio de Janeiro (well, perhaps not), but this is certainly observed as Capcoms last juncture to restore dignity, but for me, in a moment of whimsical clarity (or drunken insanity, I can’t remember?), it’s the perfect occasion to disregard all talk and mindless speculation regarding Resi, so I can patiently await the final format.
I’ve seen the trailer, I’ve compiled my opinion, and I’ve read the various pondering’s from both fans and critics, and have taken the rather magnanimous decision the reframe from additional reading. The fact is, that games of this calibre become so engulfed in media hype and fan optimism, as well as Devs creating such vast expectations for themselves and their eager followers, that titles akin to Resident Evil can’t possibly satisfy the thousands of expectant fans, hopelessly anticipating a glorious return to form. How consistently have you found yourself in a position of such hysterical excitement, by the immaculate praise lavished on an upcoming title, only to enthusiastically purchase it on day of release and be left suitably despondent? Going in with a fresh and unaltered perspective where my judgement hasn’t become helplessly impaired by flattering previews depicting the game as a triumph (or in Resi’s case, branded a failure). My view may have already been compromised, but in abstaining from all further previews, hype and developer’s arbitrary promises of exceeding gamers high aspirations, I can hopefully protect myself from overhyped expectations. Well, at least until my curiosity begins to consume my sanity. Pray for me!
