Regionals Day 2
Updates: Just because the streak will end at some time today, I successfully predicted all of the results yesterday. At this point, if a team doesn’t follow my predictions then it’s really their fault due to my history of success.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only smart TV/Roku app I’m seeing that has volleyball matches is the NEWMAC (MIT Regional). I have a couple other conferences where regionals are being held but they don’t have the matches.
10-0 NYU over Brooklyn before they get their first point. It was a serving error.
You really have to watch the NYU/Brooklyn match for a second. The height disparity between the teams is striking. 25-6 NYU with the set one win. 6 service aces.
Susquehanna wins set one 25-14. I was worried about them…guess it wasn’t warranted. Endicott wins 25-21 in set one. Tufts shakes off a slow start and wins set one.
NYU 2-0. Tufts about to go up 2-0. Babson evens it up at 1-1. Susquehanna up 2-0.
Susquehanna and NYU with two very quick sweeps. Tufts sweeps Eastern. Endicott up 2-1 on Babson. Bethel wins set one against UWSP.
Our first 5-set match of the tournament ends with Babson jumping out to a lead only to be tied by Endicott. Babson wins the last two points for a 15-13 win. Bethel up 2-0 on UWSP.
I had Endicott over Babson so my first (of many) predictions to go wrong.
We have our second upset of the tournament as Bethel sweeps UWSP. Let’s check the underdog points; only Ricky had Bethel and now has 2 points. Ned and I have 1. Noleb has 0. CC needs to come through for me. I liked both but thought CC had a better chance winning the next round, too.
For just a minute or so, we have no matches going on at the moment.
Coming up on CMS for 30 minutes and then my Pirates. Until then, Clarkson up 1-0, Cortland up 2-0, Juniata 1-0 and JWU and Bowdoin tied at 1-1.
Hey Ned! What’s up with Bowdoin sitting Pahl the first set?
Well, the mighty Pirates are done. I really think they had a chance in that regional but credit to Berry for the win. Happy my granddaughters got to play in the tournament. Looking forward to what they can do next season! Oh, Berry 3-1.
I had the CMS match on while watching Southwestern. First set they were just off and Aurora was doing well. I think it could be a good thing to drop a set like that so you realize where you are and pick up your play. They certainly did after the first set. CMS 3-1.
Trinity is heading for a sweep. Other matches are all mixed or close in the third set. CC and ONU have started and that should be a good one.
CC takes set one from ONU. It’s nice to cheer for Mullins instead of watching her hurt your team.
I’ve been watching CC win their match against ONU in 4-sets. Need to catch up and it appears we’ve had some upsets (including this one) and some 5-set magic.
On the first round upset front, we had Springfield and Colorado College. Let’s update the underdog scores; Ricky 3, Ned 3, Me 3, Norleb 1. I think there have been 4 first round upsets and getting 3 is pretty good especially when 2 came from the same region.
Haverford with the sweep. Wesleyan also with a sweep (one set went 32-30). Springfield won, as I mentioned, but it took 5-sets. CC took 4 sets while Trinity had an easy sweep.
In the second round, Otterbein won in 5-sets and Hope won in 4.
Each region has one more match left either playing or warming up right now.
We have our first host team to go out and it’s in the first round! Stevens loses to Middlebury in 4-sets. That’s an upset and so we update the count; Ricky 4, Ned 4, Me 3 and Norleb 2.
The defending champions are back and they get a sweep. Welcome back Simone Bliss! (I know you were back over the weekend. I’m not sure why you can’t give me this.)
Nice fourth set between Calvin and Wittenberg but Calvin gets the win of the set and match.
Wartburg/Cornell is our last match of the night. It’s Wartburg 2-1 right now.
Wartburg 3-1 but Cornell blew that fourth set late. Well, Wartburg also stepped up a ton. We almost had a #1 host seed playing a 5th set. That’s it for tonight…more tomorrow.

Random Thoughts: Hold me. The busy day of the tournament with 5 regionals having a full slate of matches.
Starting with the MIT Regional, give me Susquehanna, Bowdoin, Haverford and MIT. I think Maine Maritime has the best chance at an upset here.
With the RIT Regional, I like Endicott, Juniata, Wesleyan and RIT.
With the Johns Hopkins Regional, give me Tufts, Cortland, Springfield and Johns Hopkins.
In the Wartburg Regional I like Bethel, CMS, Colorado College and Wartburg. Going with two upsets in this one.
In the Stevens Regional give me NYU, Stevenson, Trinity and Middlebury. Another two upset region.
Second round for the next three regionals.
Emory Regional I have to go with Southwestern and Emory, but honestly I could see any combination happening in this one.
For the Calvin Regional I’ll take Whitewater and Calvin. No upsets here.
Finally, for the the Eau Claire Regional, I’ll take Northwestern and UW-Eau Claire.
Here is what you guys have:
I like Bowdoin in this one but there are a few good options including MIT, obviously.
I agree with this choice. I think Juniata is an overwhelming favorite in this regional.
Five people have hope, I guess. I think if Johns Hopkins losses this regional it would be one of the all-time upsets.
Undefeated Wartburg is the 3rd choice. Interesting. I like CMS here but Wartburg scares me. I also think Colorado College has a chance to get to the regional final.
I think this is a two team regional. Only 4 people disagree. I also like Trinity for this Regional.
