Region X RAC Chair Named

Well, I’m not sure the name has been named by those that do the naming, but I’m willing to name Gabrielle (Gabby) Houston (UC Santa Cruz Head Coach) as the new RAC Chair for Region X. Congratulations to Gabby for becoming my new best friend! To be clear, I don’t have the power to name the RAC Chair…yet. I just know it’s her.

Gabby replaces Chris Duarte-McDermott (Whittier) as the Chair as his term had expired. Speaking of expired terms, three of our RAC Members are also out as their term is over. They were Nicole McCoy-Dalby (Concordia), Julie Jenkins (Trinity) and Leslie Shevlin (Willamette Associate Athletic Director). I had assumed that Shevlin would get the Chair position as the NWC was due for the job but the NCAA threw a curve ball by going to Gabby who’s team plays in the C2C Conference. It’s also interesting that Gabby wasn’t a RAC member leading into getting the Chair position. No word on the other three new members as of this time. The only remaining member of the RAC is Kellee Roesel  (Cal Lutheran).

I’m sure Gabby will do a great job but there is going to be a learning curve and some angst by me as we approach selection day. The process involves 10 regions fighting for their team when it comes to those precious at-large bids and you have to be willing to fight and ruffle some feathers. As a reminder, I did put together an article that describes the RAC and the selection process. Lots of great information there and you’ll be a big hit at parties if you read it.

My Latvian hackers will keep an eye out for those three other RAC members and I’ll let you know when I do.
