The Pittsburgh Pirates system had another prospect honored as the best in their respective league. After having two award winners at Double-A Altoona, a High-A prospect was honored this as well week.
Pitcher Carlson Reed was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the week award winner. Reed threw six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out 10 batters in a 5-0 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks, last Wednesday night. The 10 strikeouts are a career best.
Reed is 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA in 14 starts for Greensboro this season. This is his second SAL pitcher of the week award as he won it during the week of 8/25/24. Reed isn’t currently ranked in the Pirates top 30 prospects list.
It’s good to see another prospect have a strong week and win an award. With Greensboro looking to clinch a second half division championship and playoff spot this strong start couldn’t have come at a better time for Reed.
