Re-Seeding Announced
The NCAA sure took their time with this. I can only imagine the conflict there must have been. Last year the seeding was released right around 11 p.m. Eastern. This year it took them until 11:50 p.m. In the end, here are the seeds:
Emory
Johns Hopkins
Calvin
Carthage
Bowdoin
Trinity
Saint Benedict
Clarkson
This is frankly a joke and here I thought we’d go through an NCAA Tournament without a major screw-up. I really need to know what they based these seedings on because they really don’t make sense.
The fact that Johns Hopkins is #2 instead of #4 where I would have had them is probably justifiable but do we really have people in the committee that think they are better than Calvin? Better than Carthage? I assume they went back to the criteria and that, at least explains Johns Hopkins.
Bowdoin at #5 is another matter. They have a better SOS than Trinity but what else? Record? Nope. Ranked wins? Nope. Exact same situation with St. Ben. I also don’t agree putting Bowdoin ahead of Clarkson but at least that’s a closer decision. Bottom line, criteria couldn’t have been used because they weren’t consistent with it.
This seeding has put the two worst teams in the Elite 8 (Bowdoin and Clarkson) on the same side of the bracket and has given an incredible advantage to both Emory (who deserved it) and Carthage. Calvin has to play a team that I guess had their bus hit some puppies on the way to the airport today in Trinity instead of getting a much easier match. The big winner in all of this has to be Saint Benedict who gets a winnable match with Johns Hopkins as opposed to Carthage. The big loser is Trinity who went from most likely getting Johns Hopkins to getting Calvin. Again, it was just a shame their bus hit the over 70 marathon runners.
I really hope there is an explanation that comes out from this but I know there will not be. Hey Trinity…let me know what you hear! But, first, please wipe the blood off the windscreen from when you hit those baby seals.
