R.I.P. Robert Redford

Just got the memo that Robert Redford (b. 1936) has passed. To someone who remembers a time when he was America’s biggest male sex symbol, nothing is as well calculated to make you feel old as the words “Robert Redford, Dead at 89”.

I came this close to doing a full post on him on his birthday last month, but it’s such a huge topic I cut and ran at the last moment and just did one on The Great Waldo Pepper. My hands are full with other things today, so I will save the proper post for what would have been his 90th, next August. Meantime, this quickie. Here are links to films of his we’ve written about:

There is much more to say about this giant of American culture, about his other films as actor, about the movies he directed, his work as an activist and philanthropist, and above all, the world he created at Sundance, which changed the course of American cinema. We will return to the topic next August. Meantime, my hat’s off — and it’s a cowboy hat.
