Product Review: Tate’s Bake Shop Chocolate Chip Cookies
One of the items in the coupon book for August that I wanted to try were the Tate’s chocolate chip cookies (More Costco Deals for August). I am so glad that I did…they are delicious. I mentioned that I had tried the vegan ones in the past and had high expectations for this dairy version. High expectations mostly met.
Ice cream has always been my favorite dessert. However, I also very much enjoy baked goods, including cookies. My mom used to bake a lot and made excellent chocolate chip cookies, even from a mix. My family always liked them soft and undercooked and I’ve always been a little biased towards soft cookies.
On a few occasions we made cookies from scratch and those were even better. I no longer bake and am therefore pleased when I find good cookies. I prefer fresh cookies from a bakery but packaged cookies can also be excellent.
A few years ago I started eating brownie crisp and a few types of other crispy cookies. Although I would probably still choose soft cookies, I realized that I did like crispy cookies, especially when dipped into milk or ice cream when they softened up a bit from soaking up the ice cream.
I tried the vegan Tate’s cookies when I could no longer find the brownie crisp or cookies (again, more food I like that got discontinued…) and was very pleased. They were not quite as crispy as I anticipated and tasted buttery, despite not containing dairy.
These dairy cookies from Costco are very crispy but I liked them a lot. The cookies are not too large, about the size of a baseball in diameter. They are light brown and contain enough chocolate chips to get one or two in almost every bite (depending on the size of the bite). I would have preferred a few more chips but the cookie itself is tasty enough that it is not a huge problem. The cookie itself is buttery and sweet but not overly sugary and artificial tasting. The natural/fresh taste makes sense given the relatively short and natural list of ingredients.
I ate the cookies with my newly discovered Fairlife chocolate milk (Product Review: Fairlife Nutrition Plan Chocolate Milk). It was a great combination. I was a little concerned that the chocolate milk would be too sweet with the cookies. However, because the milk is not too sweet, it was great. I know these cookies will be great with regular milk or ice cream as well.
Tate’s cookies can be a little expensive but they are currently $3.50 off. The box contains six bags of seven cookies for a total of 42 cookies. I like that they come in smaller bags so that they stay fresher.
I am debating getting another bag while they are on sale but it will depend on the expiration date.
Have you tried Tate’s cookies? Costco only sells chocolate chip but have you tried other varieties? I am interest in snickerdoodles. If you tried them, how are they?
