Product Review: Healthy Choice Organic Fudge Bars

I have mentioned multiple times that I have always preferred scooped ice cream to novelties. I did occasionally enjoy a few of the “bar treats” growing up (Strawberry Shortcake bar; Drumstick; Orange Cream bar) but rarely would choose one over regular ice cream. One of the few that I always liked (but not sure it’s considered a novelty…) were Fudgcicles. They were certainly not the best quality chocolate or the smoothest texture. Nevertheless, there was something very satisfying about them. I recently looked on the Popsicle website and saw that the only remaining Fudgcicles are sugar free (seems like an odd business decision but anyway…) I did taste the sugar free variety when visiting my diabetic grandparents growing up. They were decent but kind of chalky. When I saw that Costco had the Healthy Choice Organic Fudge Bars on sale this month, I decided to give them a try…and I am very glad I did!

The bars taste more like ice cream than I remember of Fudgcicles, with a creamier, smoother texture. Although I opted to lick the bars as they dripped in the heat, the few actual bites that I took were not icy and fortunately did not result in that terrible feeling when icy pops hit the teeth. I was able to lick the bars at a steady pace and the melted edges tasted great. The chocolate flavor was sweet but not overly so. I ate two bars at the same time because one was too small for what I wanted at the time. However, one would be satisfying enough for a snack or a smaller dessert. The bars do have a very thin icy coating, reminiscent of (but not quite as good as) the outer layer of those old discontinued Jell-o Pudding Pops that anyone above the age of about 30 probably remembers.

These bars are sold in boxes of 18 3-ounce bars. The bars are organic, low in calories, and kosher.

I highly recommend them!
