Pre-Championship Manual Posted

The NCAA has released their Pre-Championship Manual for the 2023-24 season. This document details the information revolving around the NCAA Tournament. It includes the names of the National Selection Committee and individual RACs. It also lists the selection criteria and what region each school is in.

Here are some of the differences I noted as I went through the document:

  • Ryan Richardson is the Coordinator, Championships & Alliances

  • The National Selection Chair is now Region IV Sam Atkinson

  • Drew Hargrave (Region V) is the Vice-Chair for the National Selection Committee

  • The RAC Chairs for Region I and II are now listed (Matthew McMasters – Tufts and Paul Dill – MIT)

  • Region VIII has a new RAC Chair in Melanee Wagener (Mt St Joseph)

  • Region X has a new RAC Chair in Gabrielle Houston (UC Santa Cruz)

  • There were a number of changes in the individual RACs

  • We will have one week between the Regionals and the Championship this year

  • Pool A bids were reduced from 44 to 42

  • There will be one Pool B bid (same as last year)

  • Pool C Bids will be increased from 19 to 21.

  • The two conferences that no longer exist (have a Pool A Bid) were Colonial States Athletic Conference and New England Collegiate Conference

  • I counted 11 eligible Pool B teams (most out of the Collegiate Conference of the South, which doesn’t have an automatic qualifier, yet)

I did see an error in that the New England Collegiate Conference and their four old schools are still listed in the appendix. Those four schools are also listed in their correct conferences.

Interesting to have a National Selection Committee Vice-Chair. Not happy it’s from Region V as Drew seems to know the selection game pretty well as Region V has been very fortunate in receiving bids the last couple of years.

This manual came out 18 days earlier than last year. Good to see the NCAA getting back into the swing of things.

Love seeing Pool C (at-large) bids get increased. Just makes the NCAA Tournament better.

UC Santa Cruz is still listed in Region X.

The FAQ Page has been updated with this information and a link to the manual added.
