Popular Costco Items in 2024

Costco purposely moves items around and does not label the aisles to encourage browsing and finding new items (How Costco Gets Members to Spend More). However, it can still be easy to just look for one’s usual purchases and miss new or unfamiliar items. There are times when someone will mention an item I’ve never seen and I then want to look for it. Here are 15 items that were very popular over the past year. Perhaps they are something you did not see but would like to try. Obviously people have different tastes. Nevertheless, it can be helpful to learn about popular items before trying a new items at Costco, especially given the “commitment” to the large size. 

1. Amylu Caramelized Onion & Aged White Cheddar Chicken Burgers

These non-beef burgers have been available at Costco for several years and continued to be popular in 2024. Apparently, they are made from high quality ingredients and taste very good. 

Not for me but this is an item I don’t even recall every having seen, despite it not being a new items.

2. Universal Bakery Organic Aussie Bites

These snacks that are made from rolled oats, dried apricots, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, honey, coconut, and chia seeds continued to have a following in 2024 after being available for years.

I have seen this item for a long time. There is not a kosher symbol but I looked for one for a long time because I wanted to try them. I know others like them very much and have been buying them for a long time. 

3. Noel Jamon Serra Bone-In Ham Leg

An item that was popular in 2024 but that is not always sold at Costco is this ham. The legs are sold in boxes along with a carving stand, knife, and slicing instructions. The meat itself is 14 pounds and aged for at least a year. The packages cost $100.

Definitely not for me.

4. Authentic Motor City Pizza Co.’s Double Pepperoni Detroit-Style Deep Dish Pizza

Another long-term item that continues to remain popular is this frozen pizza. It gets rave reviews not only as a frozen pizza but also in comparison to restaurant pizza. 

Yet another not-for-me item but frozen pizzas are definitely an item that I can see being on people’s “must buy” lists and therefore continue to be a favorite year after year.

5. Rao’s Eggplant Parmesan

A new product in 2924 that was clearly a hit was this Eggplant Parmesan. The new item consists of breaded eggplant slices, marinara sauce, and assorted cheeses. As a new item, this item was featured in the savings book (Costco Deals for September). I know that people liked it very much and bought it more than once. 

I’m not surprised that this was a new favorite item for members. The marinara sauce has been popular for years. Therefore, I am not surprised that the company would also create high quality meals.  With so many items in the freezer section, I think it could be easy to miss so it is helpful to have it featured on this list and in the savings book to draw attention to it. 

6. Metal Chicken

This 22-inch metal chicken sold online was very popular after it was introduced in 2024. In fact, it was so popular that Costco could not even meet the demand for them. 

I wrote about this new item as a silly item (What is Costco Thinking?) and was surprised that it was so popular (Fastest Selling Costco Products). I still do not understand the appeal.

7. Beecher’s “World’s Best” Mac & Cheese

Another popular frozen entree over the past year was this macaroni and cheese made from  penne pasta, two types of cheese, and a little spice. Members rate it as the best alternative to homemade macaroni and cheese and superior to most frozen brands.

Although not for me I think it is helpful to know that this item is good if I were to buy it. With so many varieties of macaroni and cheese (frozen; boxes; prepared; homemade), it is helpful to know that many people like it more than other brands, suggesting it’s worth a try. 

8. Kirkland Signature Vintage Ale

A new alcoholic beverage this past year was this ale made from The  Deschutes Brewery in Oregon. It is made with dark chocolate malt, milled oats, and Dutch cocoa before aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. 

I don’t drink but I imagine that it is helpful for those interested in trying novel alcohol to be able to hear others like it.

9. Kirkland Signature Pet Hoodies

After being a new item in 2023, this pet clothing disappeared and was popular again when it returned in the fall of 2024. This product is liked for the “cute factor” and members were  disappointed when they sold out.

I wrote about this item as one that was very popular (Fastest Selling Costco Products). I don’t have pets so it is not an item I world normally notice. However, it could be a good present for the many per owners.

10. Tempura Shrimp Taco Kit

Apparently, this shrimp taco kit is a variation on a product that has been sold for years, the Chicken Street Taco Kits. This new variation is sold in the deli section and is sold ready-to-eat after heating. They contain 12 corn and flour tortillas, 12 pieces of tempura shrimp, shredded vegetables, cilantro lime crema, and pico de gallo.

I’m not surprised that these would be popular and it can be helpful to know that Costco continues to alter even popular items. It can be so easy to skip over items and maybe not notice new ones.

11. S’mores Cookies

Costco started selling S’mores Cookies in 2023. Due to their popularity, they reappeared for a limited time in the summer of 2024 and remained a much-liked treat.

I did not try this cookie but I remember them being popular. Given how much people like them, I wonder if they will ever become a regular item 

12. Antiga 1860 Luxury Candle

This candle introduced in 2024 made the list due to being popular for its large size (nine inches tall; seven inches in diameter; 150 ounces) and ability to burn for 150 hours. 

I am surprised that these candies would be so popular because I don’t see people using candles too often. 

13. Fruit Riot Sour Candy Grapes

Another popular item introduced in 2024 is this candy made from frozen grapes, lemon juice, and sour candy. 

I wrote about this new item (Unique Candy Items to Buy at Costco). I think it is helpful to have it on the list because the unusual description might discourage some from buying them. However, knowing that many like them might make the purchase seem less “risky.”

14. Banana Cream Pie

The bakery introduced a popular item in the spring of 2024. The three-pound banana cream pie consisted of banana cream filling in a graham cracker crust,stopped with caramel whipped topping and a caramel drizzle.

Banana cream pie is not my thing so I did not try this pie but I am not surprised that any new bakery item is popular. I will be interested to see if it reappears as a seasonal bakery item 

15. The Gift of Membership tote bags

The final item on the list was these tote bags that Costco started selling in 2024. The bags are reusable and are decorated with Costco-themed items (e.g., pizza slices; membership cards). The bags are available when people purchase a new membership card for $65. 

I always use the boxes available for packing purchased items at Costco and I knew that Costco stores in some other countries sold reusable bags (Costco in Taiwan (International Series #11)). I was unaware of the reusable bags in the United States, likely because we have an executive membership and are not new members. If the bags are part of The Welcome Package, I’m not sure it’s “fair” to list them as a popular item. However, it is good to know about them.
