Please Support Travalanche — Some OTHER Day

Giving Tuesday — what a dumb idea! To have every charity in the country beg for money all at the same time! I’d be interested to know if it actually works. I should think you’d have LESS success with your appeals on that day above all others.

And anyway there causes more deserving than mine. So…I don’t expect you to give me anything today, I’m just writing to educate you about the fact that there IS a way to support Travalanche, if such a perverse notion should ever enter your head, and that’s my Patreon page. Paid subscribers to Travalanche get extra original content in several forms. These include:

• Daily curated media clips with additional commentary by me, related to Travalanche posts, sometimes brand new ones, sometimes older ones. Film, television, old time radio, record albums, documentary video and audio of performers, etc generally constitute the meat of the shares. Wherevere possible, I try to choose clips that are either novel in some way or rare or newly available. After a month I open the posts up to the general public and you can see them on the page.

• In person events in NYC, such as walking tours and talks.

• Special audio podcasts and Zoom talks by me. I did these fairly often during the pandemic with some success. It’s been a minute but I’m planning to revive these in a sustained way in the New Year as regular series on my Youtube Channel. One series I’m particularly excited about, which I call The Continuum, will be a show where I interview the children and grandchildren of famous stars who are in the business themselves. We’ll talk about tradition, influences, personalities, differences, similarities… I’ve gotten to know many of these folks during the past several years, and several have told me they’re up for it!
