It’s been a while since I have played word association with the books in my library. Here is how it works: at random, I will have a book title given to me and I will then try to summarize the content or my “takeaway” from reading that book in one word. Here goes:

  • Church as a Culture of Care by Dale Johnson = COMMUNAL

  • Agape and Eros by Anders Nygren = CONFUSING

  • Hitler’s Cross by Erwin W. Lutzer = CONSPIRACIES

  • Accidental Pharisees by Larry Osborne = CONVICTING

  • Is the Bible Good for Women? by Wendy Alsup = COUNTER-CULTURAL

  • Christ’s Prophetic Plans by John MacArthur = DISPENSATIONAL

  • Holy War by John Bunyan = DISTURBING

  • The Existence and Attributes of God by Stephen Charnock = EXHAUSTIVE

  • Basic Theology by Charles C. Ryrie = FOUNDATIONAL

  • 50 People Every Christian Should Know by Warren W. Wiersbe = GOLD

  • Case for Amillennialism by Kim Riddlebarger = HELPFUL

  • Love Wins by Rob Bell = HERESY

  • Biblical Eldership by Alexander Strauch = INSTRUCTIONAL

  • How to Walk Into Church by Tony Payne = INSTRUCTIVE

  • Between Heaven and Hell by Peter Kreeft = PAGE-TURNER (hyphens are allowed)

  • Competent to Counsel by Jay Adams = NEEDED

  • How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Alder = NERDY

  • Counterfeit Gods by Timothy Keller = QUOTEABLE

  • Meaning at the Movies by Grant Horner = REDEMPTIVE

  • The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer = WORSHIPFUL
