Players of the Week (10/9/24)
The following players have earned POW honors. Links to their articles are attached to the conference name when available. Previous winners will be retained at the bottom of the article. The AVCA Player of the Week is also included below.
I had taken a stab this week on guessing some names for the player of the week (in the Weekly Wrap-Up). Here is how I did:
ASC – My pick was Reid and the ASC agreed.
C2C – I didn’t make a pick because UCSC didn’t play. The C2C felt the need to continue with the award.
NWC – I went with Takamoto and I’m still good with that. Their picks were fine, too.
SCAC – I went with Marks and she got it.
SCIAC – I went with McGovern and really thought this was the easiest call. The SCIAC disagreed. Again, their picks were fine but Hayes went against the two weakest teams in the conference. McGovern went against one of them but only played one set due to the blow out. This conference seems to have an issue valuing setters. I actually like Jenny Jenks from Pomona-Pitzer if you were going to go in that direction.
Okay. Not to hammer the SCIAC anymore because I love them…but…who is your player of the year going to be? Mya Ray is a great option and she’s won this award twice. What if CMS wins your conference? They are leading, you know. Who is the best player on that team? I’ll give you a hint because it’s not super close…it’s McGovern. Did the AVCA voters from last year all move to the SCIAC this year? You guys need to figure out how important setters are. Final thing, Kellan Hayes had a great week. Nothing I’ve written is meant as a slight towards her. This is more of an accumulation of sins than a one week thing.
